Education & employment
Routine, purpose and a pathway that leads somewhere
Education and work do more for placement stability than almost anything else. We treat attendance as a shared responsibility — ours as much as the young person's.
Many of the young people we support have had their education interrupted by displacement, caring responsibilities or repeated moves.
We start from where they actually are, not where a timetable says they should be. That might mean ESOL first, then a college course; a traineeship before an apprenticeship; or rebuilding confidence through volunteering before applying for work.
Progress is recorded and reported, so leaving-care teams and social workers can see movement rather than a description of intent.
College and sixth form
Enrolment, timetable planning, transport and coursework support, with direct contact to college pastoral teams.
Traineeships and apprenticeships
Applications, CVs, interview practice and understanding what an employer will expect.
Employment
Support with job search, applications, uniforms, travel and the first weeks in a new role.
English for Speakers of Other Languages
ESOL classes and language practice in the home, especially for unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people.
Functional skills
Maths and English support where qualifications were interrupted.
Volunteering and community
Confidence-building activity that creates references and routine.
Practical support
What we actually do about it
Encouragement without logistics is just a conversation. These are the practical commitments in every young person's plan.
- Support to apply, enrol and appeal where a place is refused
- Attendance monitored weekly, with follow-up the same day
- Travel costs, equipment and IT access discussed at admission
- Liaison with colleges, training providers and employers
- Termly pathway review recorded in the support plan
- Achievements recognised and reported to the placing authority
NEET and unsure?
Refer a young person who is not in education
We will assess realistically what support they need to re-engage, and be honest if a different service is a better fit.
